Abandoned Cessna Aircraft With A Toyota Van To Make A Jaw Dropping Ride
CAR-enthusiast cop Jeff Bloch amazes road users cruising the streets in a converted PLANE. The 40-year-old police officer - dubbed Speedy Cop by his friends - combined an abandoned Cessna aircraft with a Toyota van to make his jaw-dropping ride. The 27-foot vehicle was originally built for the 24 Hours of LeMons race in South Carolina, US - but since then Jeff has made the car street legal. Jeff, from Washington, USA, said: “You see a plane driving down the street, your first thought is, 'oh my God, a plane crashed'. "And the second thought is, 'that's the coolest thing I've ever seen'." Jeff added headlights, taillights and turn signals to make the car safe for the road. He said: “I kind of am concerned because people focus so hard on this they don't look where they're going. "I haven't seen an accident yet, but I'm afraid it's inevitable.” The car, named Spirit of LeMons, can reach speeds of 90 miles per hour and won the most coveted prize at the race. Jeff said: “It won the grand prize called the Index of Effluency. "That’s the prize that they give for the vehicle that has no business being on a racetrack - yet is really cool and does its very best anyway.” Jeff, a cop for 17 years has no formal training in engineering or mechanics. He said: "One of the best reactions was in South Carolina from a group of guys driving Ferraris. "We pulled in to get gas and their jaws dropped. One of the guys said it was the coolest car he had ever seen - and he drove a Ferrari." Abandoned for 40 years the 1956 Cessna 310 was home to an array of wildlife when Jeff bought it for $2,000. He said: "The floor was rotted away by urine but when I saw it I knew it was perfect." Jeff hopes to enter the Spirit of LeMons in more races and next plans to drive the plane across the US with his brother. Jeff said: "I love to compete and build unique vehicles. "People follow me for miles waiting for me to pull of the road so they can stop and ask what it is. "It draws attention wherever it goes and it’s really been fun.”34 Images -

Sale Of A Churchill Letter
A LETTER in which Winston Churchill issues a rallying call for the defeat of Hitler is to go under the hammer. The rare note - sent just days after the outbreak of WWII - is addressed to employees of A Whyman Ltd, of Finsbury North London. Experts believe the company produced vital naval supplies, with Churchill keen to impress upon them their duty on the home front to help defeat Hitler. The letter headed "A personal letter from the First Lord of the Admiralty the Rt Hon Winston Churchill M.P." is accompanied by the war time leaders signature and dated September 16, 1939. Written on a typewriter on plain white paper, Churchill says: "At the beginning of the present struggle I wish to impress upon every man and woman in your employment the urgent importance of the Government work on which you are engaged. "The zeal and craftmanship [sic] of those who like them are equipping our fighting forces will be a decisive factor in the defeat of Hitler and all he stands for. "I shall be glad if you will convey to them my conviction that in their present occupations they are serving their King and Country no less effectively than those who have joined His Majesty’s Forces for active service afloat and ashore." The letter goes for sale at Mullock's Auctioneers next sale of historical documents at Ludlow Racecourse, Shropshire, on May 21. Richard Westwood-Brookes, the auctioneers historical documents expert, is expecting global interest in the rare document. He said: "Just why Churchill chose to send this particular letter on that day is a mystery. "He was in Scapa Flow that day, in his role as First Lord of the Admiralty, so it is likely that the company he was writing to - A Whyman Ltd – were involved in supplying naval equipment. "We have not been able to trace this particular company, but papers which come with the letter suggest they were based in Finsbury, North London – and yet the letter itself is endorsed on the back ‘Removed from France in Managers Office’. "Letters of this nature, written in typically Churchillian language, are highly sought after by collectors, and this one, written so soon after the outbreak of war and mentioning Hitler by name is particularly rare and we are expected worldwide interest."2 Images -
